Sizzlin' Snake Plants

Sansevieria, often called Snake Plant, is one of our most popular plants at Baker Garden & Gift. Extremely hardy, snake plants make a great beginner friendly plant. Snake plants are known for their upright, compact growth. To get technical, snake plants grow from rhizomes, thick, horizontal stems that stay under the soil level and produce new shoots. Whether you are an expert green thumb or this is the first thing you are trying to keep alive, a snake plant is the perfect new addition to to your home.

Care

Extremely adaptable to any light condition; however, snake plants grow slower in lower light conditions.

Title

Allow soil to dry between waterings - snake plants store energy and water in their leaves, which enables them to go a long time between watering.

Title

Soil - use a well draining and airy soil to mimic their natural environment. We recommend our Baker Serpent Supreme Growing Medium.

What's it called?

Title

In the past, snake plants were thought to be in their own genus, but in 2017 the plant was reclassified into the Dracaena genus. This means, technically, we should be calling the plant Dracaena instead of Sansevieria (or snake plant); however, that change hasn't been adopted into the retail houseplant industry yet.
