Alocasia is native to subtropical Asia and eastern Australia
They reproduce through tubers that form corms, which are swollen underground plant stems. A very common characteristic of Alocasia is their tendency to drop leaves to produce new growth, this is just the plants way of conserving energy. So do not be alarmed if you alocasia drops a leaf when there is new leaves coming
While there are some alocasia corms can be processed to become edible, the houseplant itself is toxic.
